Quality and Safety Standards
Although no standard exists in the UK specifically aimed at container ramps, the following should be considered:
- Machinery Directive 98/37/EC – All machinery available in the EU must comply with this mandatory directive, which covers Health & Safety and guarantees a high level of protection to anyone using such equipment.
- The Dock Leveller Standard (BS EN 1398:2009) – accepted in all EU member states – is known within the industry as being the most relevant for container ramps. All reputable container ramps should be designed, tested and manufactured to the requirements of this standard.
- CE Marking – look for the manufacturer’s declaration that a product complies with the provisions of all applicable Directives, including the essential safety and health requirements, and is proven by the demonstration of a route of compliance.
